History Of Presentations #
Student pairs will each complete one “history of” presentation during the semester.
These 10 minute presentations will showcase about a textile history of your choice. Topics could include materials, textile techniques, equipment, culturally-specific patterns/techniques, and others.
Consider: Where did this material/technique/tool originate? How has it changed over time? What social, political, and environmental factors have impacted this development? How is this material/technique/tool used contemporarily? historical information about the production or use of a textile techniques and how they have evolved over time.
The presentation should include a historical overview, discussion of the social, political, and/or cultural context, and contemporary uses of the topic as well as key takeaways or insights and visuals. Research sources and visuals should be cited. Consider.
Past topics have included the history guitar strings, history of denim, history of Navajo weaving, etc. The goal is for you to perform some original research on a topic that interests you and, in sharing it with the class, to help us envision topics for our final projects.
Your presentations should include:
- 5-10 slides with text/imagery.
- at least 3 cited references to source materials
- one slide that outlines a few of the questions that your research inspired for you and your partner
